Carbon nanomaterials are promising adsorbents for dye removal from wastewater also due to their possible surface functionalization that, in principle, can increase the adsorption rate and provide regeneration. To investigate the real advantages of functionalization, we synthesized and characterized through IR, TGA, TEM, XPS and DLS measurements a multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) derivative bearing benzenesulfonate groups (MWCNT-S). The obtained material demonstrated to have good dispersibility in water and better capability to adsorb methylene blue (MB) compared to the pristine MWCNT adsorbent.

N-acetylcysteine (NAC), a mucolytic agent and an antidote to acetaminophen intoxication, has been studied in experimental conditions and trials exploring its analgesic activity based on its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The purpose of this study is to investigate additional mechanisms, namely, the inhibition of nerve growth factor (NGF) and the activation of the Tropomyosin receptor kinase A (TrkA) receptor, which is responsible for nociception. In silico studies were conducted to evaluate dithiothreitol and NAC's interaction with TrkA.

In this work, mixed Ni/Co and Ni/Fe metal phosphides with different metal ratios were synthesized through the phosphidization of high-surface-area hydroxides grown hydrothermally on carbon cloth. The materials were characterized by means of X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, and electron microscopies. The electrocatalytic performance in the electrochemical water splitting was tested in alkaline media.

The origin of fluorescence in carbon dots (C-dots) is still a puzzling phenomenon. The emission is, in most of the cases, due to molecular fluorophores formed in situ during the synthesis. The carbonization during C-dots processing does not allow, however, a fine control of the properties and makes finding the source of the fluorescence a challenging task.
