Reversible Nucleophilic Ring-Opening of Tetraoxapentacene Derivatives: Accessing New Materials for Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence.

We report the unexpected nucleophilic ring-opening reaction of electron deficient dioxins in the presence of carbazole under basic conditions. This nucleophilic ring-opening reaction is reversible under basic conditions in the absence of nucleophiles. Further, we demonstrate that this unexpected reactivity can be used to prepare novel donor-acceptor compounds that are emissive in solution and as thin films and exhibit thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF).

The widely distributed human pathogen and commensal produces a biofilm matrix composed of phosphoethanolamine (pEtN)-modified cellulose and amyloid protein fibers, termed curli. The addition of pEtN to the cellulose exopolysaccharide is accomplished by the action of the pEtN transferase, BcsG, and is essential for the overall integrity of the biofilm.

Hedonic assessment and sensory characteristics of 13 genotypes, stewed with onions, tomatoes and potatoes, were evaluated. 50 consumers ranked their preference on a nine-point hedonic scale to determine overall acceptability of the stewed samples. In addition, 100 consumers were asked to select sensory characteristics that described the genotypes best, using the Check-all-that-apply question.
