Imaging and Nonsurgical Management of Renal Masses.

In patients with renal masses, when intervention is warranted, partial nephrectomy is preferred when feasible, especially for T1 renal masses. Thermal ablation, however, has become an accepted alternative treatment of small renal neoplasms with excellent oncologic outcomes. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines include thermal ablation as a treatment strategy for managing T1a and select T1b masses.

A practical approach to the post esophagectomy CT: expected postoperative anatomy and anatomical approach to associated complication.

This pictorial review aims to provide a structured approach to the interpretation of post esophagectomy CT by reviewing the major esophagectomy surgeries and conduit reconstructions, along with their associated complications at key anatomical landmarks. This paper combines an image rich experience and evidence-based approach to common and rare complications. The paper begins with an overview of the conventional Ivor Lewis esophagectomy and the expected postoperative imaging appearance (with separate detailed tables on additional surgical reconstructions), followed by a focused review of various complications at specific anatomical sites in a systematic fashion.

Addressing Statistical Power and Increasing Diversity in Hospice Research: Electronic Medical Record Participant Identification Compared to Nurse Referral Approaches to Recruitment.

Context: Recruitment of targeted samples into hospice clinical trials is often challenging. While electronic medical records (EMR) are commonly used in hospital-based research, it is uncommon in hospice research. The community setting and the variability in hospices and their medical record creates unique challenges.

Eukaryotic Clathrin Adapter Protein and Mediator of Cholesterol Homeostasis, PICALM, Affects Trafficking to the Chlamydial Inclusion.

The obligate intracellular pathogen has unique metabolic requirements as it proceeds through its biphasic developmental cycle from within the inclusion within the host cell. In our previous study, we identified a host protein, PICALM, which localizes to the chlamydial inclusion. PICALM functions in many host pathways including the recycling of receptors, specific SNARE proteins, and molecules like transferrin, and maintaining cholesterol homeostasis.
