Combined effects of temperature and diet on the performance of larvae produced by young and old Palaemon serratus females.

Seasonal variations in environmental conditions determine the success of decapod larval development, and females transmit more energy in sub-optimal conditions to maximise the fitness of their offspring. The objective of this study was to focus on the combined effects of temperature (14, 18 and 22 °C) and food quality on the performance of larvae produced by 5 young (0+) and 5 old (I+) Palaemon serratus females. We prepared 3 diets based on Artemia, in decreasing order of total fatty acid content: freshly hatched nauplii (N), unenriched metanauplii (M) and metanauplii enriched with a mixture of microalgae (ME).

Woodworking injuries: a comparative study of work-related and hobby-related accidents.

The primary objective of this study was to describe the injury characteristics and demographics of patients injured during woodworking activities, upon their arrival to the emergency department in a regional of France where this industry is prevalent. The secondary objective was to compare patient and injury characteristics for work-related and hobby-related accidents. A cohort of 87 patients who had suffered a woodworking accident over a two-year period was evaluated; 79 were available for follow-up.

Penetration of daptomycin into bone and synovial fluid in joint replacement.

Daptomycin exhibits clinical activity in the treatment of infections with Gram-positive organisms, including infections due to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. However, little is known about its penetration into bone and synovial fluid. The aim of our study was to assess the penetration of daptomycin into bone and synovial fluid after a single intravenous administration.

Cementless total knee arthroplasty in chronic inflammatory rheumatism.

Introduction: We report a short-term monocentric retrospective evaluation of cementless total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in a population suffering from chronic inflammatory rheumatism.

Materials And Methods: We have reviewed 23 patients (34 knees) with an average age of 55 years (range 26-78), bearing a TKA for chronic inflammatory rheumatisms with a 6-year follow-up (range 3-12); 78% suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and 15% from juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. We used a cementless total prosthesis sacrificing the posterior cruciate ligament and bearing an ultra-congruent rotational tibial insert, the Natural Knee (NK2™) (Zimmer(®), Warsaw, IN, USA).

Bacterial contamination of the hospital environment during wound dressing change.

Introduction: The hospital environment plays a role in the cross-transmission of multidrug-resistant bacteria. The aim of this study was to evaluate the bacterial contamination of the hospital environment during chronic wound dressing change.
