Purpose: To compare clinical and radiographic outcomes of propensity-matched patients undergoing THA using standard versus high offset stems at five years.

Methods: The authors retrospectively reviewed a consecutive series of primary THAs performed between 01/09/2015-31/12/2017 using a fully-hydroxyapatite coated collared stem, with either a standard (n = 365) or high (n = 110) offset. Outcomes collected included: modified Harris Hip Score (mHHS), Oxford Hip Score (OHS), Forgotten Joint Score (FJS), and radiographic measurements including limb length discrepancy (LLD), stem subsidence, and stem radiolucencies.

Odor hedonic perception (pleasant/unpleasant character) is considered to be the first and one of the most important dimensions in olfaction and is known to be highly variable and dependent on several factors related to the stimulus, individual characteristics, and context. Although numerous experimental studies have been published on this topic, there is no comprehensive general review on the variability in odor hedonic perception. Therefore, the aim of this article was to describe and detail all the factors involved in the variability in odor hedonic perception.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the effects of INV-202, a new cannabinoid type-1 receptor inverse agonist, on kidney function in a mouse model of type-1 diabetes induced by streptozotocin.
  • Mice were treated with various doses of INV-202 for 28 days, showing decreased urinary urea and albumin excretion compared to untreated diabetic mice, along with improvements in the urinary albumin to creatinine ratio.
  • INV-202 also reduced kidney weight and podocyte loss, restored gene expression for podocyte proteins, and decreased levels of angiotensin II, indicating potential benefits for diabetic nephropathy.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a surgical therapy typically applied in Parkinson's disease (PD). The efficacity of DBS on the control of motor symptoms in PD is well grounded while the efficacity on non-motor symptoms is more controversial, especially on olfactory disorders (ODs). The present review shows that DBS does not improve hyposmia but can affect positively identification/discrimination scores in PD.

Background: The purpose of the present study was to update and report clinical outcomes and survival of primary total hip arthroplasty using a cementless double-tapered titanium fully hydroxyapatite-coated stem at a follow-up > 30 years.

Methods: The outcomes of this series of 347 primary total hip arthroplasties were already published at a follow-up > 25 years, during which only 12 stems were revised. Since then, there were two additional stem revisions, bringing the total to 14 stem revisions (all of which also required cup revision).
