Relationship between inflammatory cytokines and cardiorenal anemia syndrome: treatment with recombinant human erythropoietin (rhepo).

Background And Aim: Hemodialysis (HD) patients are exposed to persistent inflammatory state. Erythropoietin resistance is known to be strongly associated with chronic inflammation. Aim of the study was to analyze the effect of elevated inflammatory markers on hemoglobin levels and rhEPO requirements in stable patients of our hemodialysis center.

[Hepatitis C virus infection in patients on chronic hemodialysis].

Frequency of HCV infection was examined in patients on chronical program of hemodialysis considering the high risk to which they had been exposed because of frequent blood transfusion. We determined anti-HCV antibodies in 57 patients (29 male and 28 female) average age 52.6 years with terminal chronic renal failure.

Malignant tumors in hemodialysis patients.

We reviewed the incidence of malignant tumors among 923 patients with chronic renal failure, treated with hemodialysis (HD) in seven dialysis centers in Serbia between January 1983 and July 1993. Neoplasms were diagnosed in 45 cases (4.9%).
