The impact of neoadjuvant therapy in patients with left-sided resectable pancreatic cancer: an international multicenter study.

Purpose: To assess the association between neoadjuvant therapy and overall survival (OS) in patients with left-sided resectable pancreatic cancer (RPC) compared to upfront surgery.

Background: Left-sided pancreatic cancer is associated with worse OS compared to right-sided pancreatic cancer. Although neoadjuvant therapy is currently seen as not effective in patients with RPC, current randomized trials included mostly patients with right-sided RPC.

Prevention of Migration of Esophageal Self-Expandable Metallic Stents Using Endoscopic Clips.

: Esophageal stenting with self-expandable metallic stents (SEMS), for both benign and malignant reasons, has been widely practiced for decades, but migration still remains the most common complication of the procedure. In this report we aim to review our experience and results in stent fixation with clips. : We present 18 patients who underwent esophageal stenting for both benign and malignant reasons.

Isolation and characterization of a xylose-glucose isomerase from a new strain Streptomyces thermovulgaris 127, var. 7-86.

A thermostable D-xylose-glucose isomerase was isolated from the thermophilic strain Streptomyces thermovulgaris 127, var. 7-86, as a result of mutagenic treatment by gamma-irradiation of the parent strain, by precipitation and sequential chromatographies on DEAE-Sephadex A50, TSK-gel, FPLC-Mono Q/HR, and Superose 12 columns. The N-terminal amino acid sequence and amino acid analysis shows 73-92% homology with xylose-glucose isomerases from other sources.

[Supracondylar fractures in children].

In the Department of Pediatric surgery, during the last ten years, 190 patients with supracondylar fractures (second and third degree, according to Bauman's classification) have been treated. The operation was performed in only 5% of all hospitalized cases. There were only one patient with neurological and vascular complications in the early stage, but without any complications in the late stage.
