Pimecrolimus for the Treatment of Atopic Dermatitis in Infants: An Asian Perspective.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common chronic, multisystem inflammatory skin disease in pediatric patients. There has been an increase in the incidence of AD in the pediatric population of the Asia-Pacific region. Studies have shown that genetic, epigenetic, environmental and cultural factors may lead to differences in the clinical manifestation and prevalence of AD between races.

Direct Fixation of C1 Jefferson Fracture Using C1 Lateral Mass Screws: A Case Report.

Background: Jefferson fractures are classically described as burst fractures of C1. Traditional surgical treatment of these unstable fractures is either occipito-cervical or posterior C1-C2 fusion, resulting in a significant loss of range of cervical neck movement. This case report discusses the fixation of a Jefferson fracture using C1 lateral mass screws to achieve surgical stabilization while preserving the range of movement.

Prognostic significance of glycoprotein pMQ1 in breast cancer.

Background: A novel glycoprotein, pMQ1, is positively correlated with increasing histological grade in malignant astrocytomas. Cerebral metastases from breast cancer have also been found to contain pMQ1-positive cells. This study aimed to determine the role of pMQ1 in primary breast cancer.

Cytoreduction and intraperitoneal chemotherapy for the management of peritoneal carcinomatosis, sarcomatosis and mesothelioma.

Despite new developments in multi-modality treatments, complete resection remains as an absolute requirement for cure of gastrointestinal cancer. We have reported benefits from combined treatment with complete cytoreduction and intraperitoneal chemotherapy. This has been achieved with low morbidity and mortality.

Sportsman's hernia.

Background: Sportsman's hernia is a debilitating condition which presents as chronic groin pain. A tear occurs at the external oblique which may result in an occult hernia. The definition, investigation and treatment of this condition remain unclear.
