Health and tuberculosis systems resilience, the role of the private sector and pandemic preparedness: insights from a cross-country qualitative study with policy-makers in India, Indonesia and Nigeria.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic was an unprecedented challenge to health systems worldwide and had a severe impact on tuberculosis (TB) case notifications and service delivery. India, Indonesia and Nigeria are high TB-burden countries where the majority of initial care-seeking happens in the private health sector. The objectives of this study were to (1) explore policy-makers' perspectives on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on private sector TB service delivery in India, Indonesia and Nigeria and (2) identify cross-cutting insights for pandemic preparedness with respect to TB service delivery.

Inuit birthing in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunavut: A place-based inquiry of maternity care systems.

Many Indigenous People in Northern and remote areas need to travel away from home for childbirth; however, their birthing traditions and practices are intimately tied to place. This qualitative research study characterized Inuit childbirth experiences and recommendations to enhance birthing supports in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunavut in Inuit Nunangat, Canada. Birthing experiences were profoundly shaped by relationships and place attachment, and recommendations related to increased Inuit involvement in maternity care systems.

Exploring the Use of Multiple Participatory Tools to Engage Community Health Workers in Program Evaluation and Implementation: A Case Study From the Philippines.

This study explored the use of three participatory tools within a Philippines-based case study with community health workers (CHWs) by comparing and contrasting the process and data generated across the tools, and critically reflecting on adaptations and facilitation considerations that affected the tools' use. Facilitator notes and audio-recordings of discussions were integrated and analyzed thematically. Tools differed by the type of data generated: program-specific data related to CHWs' roles and responsibilities or data on broader structural factors.

Examining the role of community health workers amid extreme weather events in low- and middle-income countries: a scoping review.

Objectives: The increased frequency and severity of extreme weather events (EWEs) have underscored the need to strengthen climate-resilient health systems and capacity. Community health workers (CHWs) are integral health systems actors with the potential to protect and improve population health in a changing climate. The aim of this review was to synthesize the literature on the roles of CHWs amid EWEs in low- and middle-income countries, the barriers and facilitators to implement these roles, and program supports to strengthen CHW capacity and health system functions.
