- The study aimed to evaluate the incidence and risk factors of cystoid macular edema (CME) following vitrectomy alone and after cataract surgery in patients with either rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) or idiopathic epiretinal membrane (ERM).
- A total of 498 eyes were examined, revealing that post-vitrectomy CME occurred significantly more in ERM cases (12.8%) than in RRD cases (1%).
- The findings suggest that eyes previously treated for ERM face a greater risk of developing CME after cataract surgery, indicating that the changes caused by ERM might increase susceptibility to this condition.
Purpose: To report a challenging case of corneal descemetocele following Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy for posterior capsule opacification in a patient with Steven Johnson syndrome (SJS).
Observations: A single-eye 52 year-old man, with a history of Steven Johnson syndrome, presented with severe eye pain and profound vision reduction in his left eye two days after undergoing Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy using the standard Abraham contact lens. A corneal descemetocele was identified and subsequently confirmed by anterior segment optical coherence tomography.

Additive manufacturing (AM) of Ti-based biomedical implants is a pivotal research topic because of its ability to produce implants with complicated geometries. Despite desirable mechanical properties and biocompatibility of Ti alloys, one major drawback is their lack of inherent antibacterial properties, increasing the risk of postoperative infections. Hence, this research focuses on the Ti536 (Ti5Al3V6Cu) alloy, developed through Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion (EB-PBF), exploring bio-corrosion, antibacterial features, and cell biocompatibility.
