Application of the methods developed by the author to the plague causative agent isolated in six natural plague foci provided detection of its ability to synthesize a factor inhibiting the growth of the producing strain and cultures isolated from the same focus. In the strains isolated from these foci the inhibitor presence was stable on the agar consisting of fermentative casein hydrolysate and 0.6 per cent of lithium chloride when the indicator strains were incubated under definite temperature conditions.

A nutrient medium containing 0.7 per cent of lithium chloride was tested and Yersinia pestis inhibitor was detected in 83.3 per cent of the strains on the growth tufts of 8 indicator strains isolated from a homologous focus.

The aim of the study was to elucidate the possibility of using bacteriocinogenicity of Brucella as taxonomic feature, to determine their phylogenetic relation to other microorganisms by their bacteriocinogenic properties and to investigate the physicochemical properties of brucellacin and conditions for its stable detection. The Brucella cultures were isolated in the Caucasus. Investigation of their capacity for production of bacteriocin according to the procedure described by M.

The capacity of 216 Brucella strains to produce bacteriocins was studied. The strains were isolated from patients, farm animals, mouse-like rodents and food products in brucellosis foci of the Caucasus. The data on induction of brucellacin synthesis with methylrosanilinum chloride and screening of new indicator strains are presented.
