Genital bleeding in prepubertal girls: a systematic review.

Introduction: This systematic review aims to collate evidence of the causes of genital bleeding, other than child sexual abuse and accidental injuries, presenting in prepubertal girls. It provides an update to the 2015 Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health publication 'The Physical Signs of Child Sexual Abuse', an evidence-based review also known as the Purple Book.

Methods: MEDLINE, EMBASE and Scopus databases were searched for studies published between March 2014 and June 2023.

Tiberius: end-to-end deep learning with an HMM for gene prediction.

Motivation: For more than 25 years, learning-based eukaryotic gene predictors were driven by hidden Markov models (HMMs), which were directly inputted a DNA sequence. Recently, Holst et al. demonstrated with their program Helixer that the accuracy of ab initio eukaryotic gene prediction can be improved by combining deep learning layers with a separate HMM postprocessor.

The role of astrocytes in depression, its prevention, and treatment by targeting astroglial gliotransmitter release.

The role of ventral hippocampus (vHipp) astroglial gliotransmission in depression was studied using chronic restraint stress (CRS) and chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) rodent models. CRS increased Cx43 hemichannel activity and extracellular glutamate levels in the vHipp and blocking astroglial Cx43 hemichannel-dependent gliotransmission during CRS prevented the development of depression and glutamate buildup. Moreover, the acute blockade of Cx43 hemichannels induced antidepressant effects in rats previously subjected to CRS or CUMS.

Evaluating the Efficacy of a Pre-Established Lipid-Lowering Algorithm in Managing Hypercholesterolemia in Patients at Very High Cardiovascular Risk.

Background: Recent data from European studies (EUROASPIRE V, DA VINCI, SANTORINI) indicate that achieving the LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) target in patients at very high cardiovascular risk is uncommon. Additionally, using a combination therapy involving statins and ezetimibe remains infrequent.

Methods: A single-center assessment of a pre-defined lipid lowering treatment algorithm's effectiveness at achieving the LDL-C target in patients at very high cardiovascular risk one month and one year after hospitalization.
