Background Context: Surgical site infection (SSI) following lumbar surgery can increase healthcare costs and lead to poor clinical outcome. Irrigation of wounds with saline solution is widely accepted globally and safe for nearly all kinds of surgery. However, the efficacy of different volumes of wound irrigation has not been addressed in elective spine surgery.

This work describes the development of a novel nanowire biosensor that performs extracellular real-time multiplex sensing of small molecular metabolites, the true indicators of the body's chemistry machinery, without any preprocessing of the biosample. Unlike other nanoFET devices that follow direct binding of analytes to their surfaces, our nanodevice acts by sensing the oxidation state of redox-reactive chemical species bound to its surface.

We use a rationally designed peptide to functionalize the nanosensors, imparting them with the ability to self-insert into a lipid membrane with a desired orientation.

Here we report an integrated theoretical and experimental study examining the role of interfacial structure, particularly misfit dislocations, on solute segregation at a metal/oxide interface. We find that the local oxygen environment, which varies significantly between the misfit dislocations and the coherent terraces, dictates the segregation tendency of solutes to the interface.

Personalized drug response profiling remains inherently challenging with low cell count harvested from tumour sample. We present a 96well-formatted microfluidic plate with built-in micro-gap that preserves up to 99.
