Necrotising fasciitis is an uncommon life-threatening surgical emergency. While most commonly seen in the lower limb it can also affect the upper limb. This article reviews and summarises the current literature on necrotising fasciitis in the upper limb, covering common predisposing factors, clinical presentations, scoring systems, common organism types and the timing of surgical treatment.

Ankle fractures in the elderly are often complicated by osteoporosis and poor skin quality, resulting in poorer outcomes. This retrospective case-series describes a novel minimally invasive fixation method for managing unstable ankle fractures in the high-risk elderly patient. Six elderly patients who underwent dual tibiotalar cannulated screw fixation for unstable ankle fractures between January 2019 and 2020 were identified.

Introduction: Historically, patients undergoing an elective hip, knee or shoulder arthroplasty regularly required blood transfusions. Improved surgical techniques and perioperative optimisation have significantly decreased the requirement for blood transfusions. Models of biological systems often have many unknown parameters that must be determined in order for model behavior to match experimental observations. Commonly-used methods for parameter estimation that return point estimates of the best-fit parameters are insufficient when models are high dimensional and under-constrained. As a result, Bayesian methods, which treat model parameters as random variables and attempt to estimate their probability distributions given data, have become popular in systems biology.
