An approach to rapid processing of camera trap images with minimal human input.

Camera traps have become an extensively utilized tool in ecological research, but the manual processing of images created by a network of camera traps rapidly becomes an overwhelming task, even for small camera trap studies.We used transfer learning to create convolutional neural network (CNN) models for identification and classification. By utilizing a small dataset with an average of 275 labeled images per species class, the model was able to distinguish between species and remove false triggers.

Uncomplicated urinary tract infections in the emergency department: a review of local practice patterns.

Objectives: To determine the number of urine cultures ordered for women who presented to the emergency department (ED) with symptoms of uncomplicated UTI, and whether a culture result impacted subsequent management.

Methods: This was a retrospective chart review of non-pregnant women aged 18-39 presenting to one of two academic EDs with a discharge diagnosis of uncomplicated UTI over a one-year study period. Patients were excluded if there was documentation of fever, immunocompromised state, diabetes mellitus, absence of lower urinary tract symptoms, ED administration of intravenous antibiotics, a previous UTI treated with antibiotics in the last 90 days, two weeks post-partum or post-instrumentation.

Controlling Malaria in Western Pacific with Mosquito Nets Treated with Pyrethroids in Village Communities, 1979-1999.

Insecticide-treated mosquito nets were first put to practical use in the Western Pacific Region. Less than a decade after conducting workshops and other promotional activities, millions of people were protected by 1989. This occurred before the availability of commercially produced pretreated nets and before global funding for mass net distribution.

Improving Documentation of Pain Management at MedStar Washington Cancer Institute.

Purpose: Appropriate cancer pain documentation is one of the quality measures in the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI). MedStar Washington Cancer Institute has participated in QOPI since 2008, and documenting a plan of care for moderate to severe pain (which was defined as a pain score of ≥ 4 on a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 being the worst) was identified as an area for improvement.

Methods: We undertook a structured approach to improve documentation of the plan of care for moderate/severe pain with support from ASCO's Quality Training Program.

Congenital non-central nervous system malformations in cerebral palsy: a distinct subset?

Aim: The aim of this article was to identify and contrast the subset of children with cerebral palsy (CP) and non-central nervous system (CNS) congenital malformations with children with CP but no coexisting non-CNS congenital malformations.

Method: A population-based regional comprehensive CP registry was used to identify children with CP who had non-CNS congenital malformations (n = 34; 19 males, 15 females; 22 classified as Gross Motor Function Classification System [GMFCS] levels I-III, 12 as GMFCS level IV or V). Their clinical features were then compared with other children with CP without non-CNS congenital malformations (n = 207; 115 males, 92 females; 138 classified as GMFCS levels I-III, 69 as GMFCS level IV or V).
