Article Synopsis
  • Recurrent cervical cancer poses serious health risks, especially after initial treatment, leading to the need for new therapy options.
  • A phase 3 trial compared the effects of tisotumab vedotin to standard chemotherapy in 502 patients with recurrent or metastatic cervical cancer, focusing on overall survival.
  • Results show that tisotumab vedotin significantly improved median overall survival (11.5 months vs. 9.5 months) and progression-free survival (4.2 months vs. 2.9 months), with a higher response rate compared to chemotherapy, despite both groups experiencing a high incidence of adverse events.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of tiragolumab (anti-TIGIT) combined with atezolizumab (anti-PD-L1) as a treatment for PD-L1-positive persistent or recurrent cervical cancer in patients who had already undergone one or two chemotherapy treatments.
  • - In a phase II trial involving 171 patients, the combination treatment showed an objective response rate of 19.0%, which was not statistically significant against a predefined historical reference, indicating limited effectiveness.
  • - While both treatment groups had low progression-free survival rates (2.8 months for the combination therapy and 1.9 months for atezolizumab alone), the median overall survival was slightly better for the combination group at 11

Article Synopsis
  • Conservationists aim to create conservation strategies that benefit both people and biodiversity by focusing on the empowerment of communities through inclusive discussions and processes.
  • Empowerment is a complicated concept that operates on various levels—psychological, political, and social—making it difficult to define and evaluate in conservation efforts.
  • A review of 121 influential conservation articles reveals that most studies focus on communities in the Global South, use qualitative methods, but lack a clear definition or application of empowerment theories, potentially undermining the true benefits for local and Indigenous communities.

Background: Radiotherapy-related insufficiency fractures (RRIFs) represent a common, burdensome consequence of pelvic radiotherapy. Their underlying mechanisms remain unclear, and data on the effect of osteoporosis are contradictory, with limited studies assessing bone mineral density (BMD) by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA).

Methods: BMD by DXA (Hologic) scan and fracture risk following pelvic RRIF were retrospectively assessed in 39 patients (median age 68 years) at a tertiary cancer centre.

Background And Purpose: Metastatic and incurable cancers of the gynaecological tract (FGTC) represent a major global health burden. Systemic treatment has modest efficacy and radiotherapy is often used for local symptoms. This study combines experience from two large UK centres in palliative radiotherapy for gynaecological cancers.
