From 1979 to August 1987, there have been 178 cases of meningococcal disease in Iquique, Chile, a city of about 140,000. The attack rate for the last 5 years has been in excess of 20/100,000 per year, more than 20 times greater than for the country overall. The mortality rate was 6%.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThirteen patients with a diagnosis of very well-differentiated endocervical adenocarcinoma were studied in order to characterize the histological and immunohistochemical features of minimal deviation adenocarcinoma (MDA). Five of these patients had neoplasms composed of structures almost identical to normal endocervical glandular patterns. These five neoplasms, representing MDA, were characterized by a haphazard proliferation of both large, claw-shaped glands, and smaller, slit-shaped, pointed glands.

Histochemical studies of normal adult rat brain indicate two types of glycosaminoglycans in the subependymal region of the lateral ventricle. One network is characterized by an affinity for the cationic dyes alcian blue, aldehyde fuchsin and colloidal iron. These reactions occur at pH 1.
