Previous event-related potential (ERP) studies have shown that snake pictures elicit greater early posterior negativity (EPN) compared to other animal pictures. The EPN reflects early selective visual processing of emotionally significant stimuli. Evidence for the role that high and low spatial frequencies play in the early detection of snakes is still inconsistent.

The influence of the carbohydrate structure on the catalytic activity and selectivity was investigated by comparing two neutral sugars (glucose (Glc) and galactose (Gal), both with primary alcohols at C6), with their sugar-acid analogues (glucuronic acid (GlcA) and galacturonic acid (GalA), both with carboxylic acids at C6). The orientation of OH-groups at the C4-position ( in Glc/GlcA and in Glc/GlcA), and the C6-functionality (primary alcohols in Gal/Glc and carboxylic acids in GalA/GlcA) has a profound influence on the catalytic activity.

The main goal of this study was to examine how mouth opening in emotional faces affects subjective experience and early automatic attentional capture, as measured by the early posterior negativity (EPN) amplitude. Participants in two studies viewed angry, happy, and neutral faces with mouths open and closed while their electroencephalogram was recorded.

In the present study, the influence of prior visual experience on subsequent reading was assessed. In two separate phases, participants saw a picture of an object and read a text about the object, suggesting the same or a different shape.

These biobased chiral building blocks are presently the subject of several investigations (in our and several other groups) because of their application in high-performance biobased polymers, such as polyamides and polyurethanes. Among the three possible stereo-isomers, dideoxy-diamino isoidide and dideoxy-diamino isosorbide can be synthesized from isomannide and isosorbide respectively in high yield with absolute stereo control.
