Purpose: This study aims to assess the effectiveness of Microfragmented Autologous Fat Tissue (MFAT) treatment for knee osteoarthritis and to investigate whether patients' pre-treatment clinical condition, such as synovitis, correlates with clinical outcomes, to identify potential predicting factors for the success or failure of the treatment.

Methods: In this prospective Cohort Study Level II multicentric trial, consecutive patients with a diagnosis of early/mild osteoarthritis and failure of previous conservative measures were enrolled to undergo diagnostic arthroscopy and a single MFAT injection. Patients were assessed with repeated scoring systems at baseline, 6 months, and 12 months after surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how myeloid nuclear differentiation antigen (MNDA) expression can aid in differentiating lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma (LPL) from splenic marginal zone B-cell lymphoma (SMZL) since their characteristics often overlap.
  • It was found that while the MYD88 p.Leu265Pro mutation was identified in some LPL cases, MNDA was predominantly negative in these cases, indicating it could help rule out LPL.
  • MNDA expression was more frequent in SMZL cases, and additional specific immunohistochemical features correlated with MNDA positivity, suggesting its usefulness in diagnosing SMZL when genetic mutation tests are not available.

Chronic myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPNs) are clonal malignant bone marrow (BM) diseases, arising from a hematopoietic stem cell. All therapies for these neoplasms have peculiar effects on the bone marrow, but little evidence has been described in the literature. This review examines BM morphological changes following the main treatments in Philadelphia-negative MPNs.

The hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF-1) and the CXCL12/CXCR4 axis regulate the interaction of chronic lymphocytic leukemia cells and the tumor microenvironment. However, the interconnections occurring between HIF-1 and the CXCL12/CXCR4 axis are not fully elucidated. Here, we demonstrate that the CXCL12/CXCR4 axis plays a pivotal role in the positive regulation of the α subunit of HIF-1 (HIF-1α) that occurs in CLL cells co-cultured with stromal cells (SC).

SARS-CoV-2 infection was a leading cause of death in 2020 worldwide. It can evolve determining sudden dyspnea and death without hospitalization and/or a nasopharyngeal swab. These cases can need the intervention of forensic pathologists in order to identify causes of death and to clarify malpractice claims.
