- Researchers measured eicosanoid metabolite levels and platelet aggregation in 30 normal subjects and 31 patients with Raynaud's phenomenon, including primary and secondary cases, to investigate their role in vasospastic diseases.
- Patients with vibration white finger disease showed elevated thromboxane B2 levels with normal 6-keto-prostaglandin F1 alpha levels and less sensitivity in their platelets to ADP and collagen.
- Both primary and secondary Raynaud's patients had elevated thromboxane B2 levels, with secondary patients showing a significant increase, and this group also had heightened sensitivity in their platelets, though the relationship to vasospasm remains unclear.
Over a period of 20 yr (1962-1982), 67 apparently fit donors at a Regional Blood Transfusion Service were found to have an unexplained positive direct antiglobulin test (DAT). During 1983, 26 were traced and re-tested. 9 still had a positive DAT only 1 of whom had developed autoimmune haemolytic anaemia.
