Introduction: Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare disease with a dismal prognosis compared to its systemic large B-cell lymphoma counterpart. Real world data are limited, when considering a uniform backbone treatment.

Methods: A retrospective study of all adult patients treated sequentially with a high-dose methotrexate (HD MTX)-based regimen in a single tertiary medical center between 2003 and 2019.

The risk of developing non-Hodgkin lymphoma increases with age, yet elderly patients are under-represented in clinical trials. Here, we evaluate a combination regimen including ifosfamide, carboplatin and etoposide with or without rituximab (ICE ± R) in 32 fit elderly patients (median age 75.6 years) with relapsed or refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent studies have suggested that gemtuzumab ozogamicin (GO) combined with cytarabine can improve outcomes for elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), showing high response rates and manageable toxicity.
  • In a 5-year study with 16 elderly patients, a complete remission rate of 68.8% was achieved, particularly in those with favorable or intermediate-I genetic profiles, while none in the poor-risk groups responded.
  • The research emphasizes the importance of genetic risk stratification, revealing that median survival was significantly longer for those in the favorable and intermediate-I groups compared to their peers in the other risk categories.

The present study describes the techniques available for single-stage sarcoma resection, soft-tissue reconstruction, and radiotherapy for limb preservation in patients who are unable to undergo primary wound closure after a complete soft-tissue resection of their primary sarcoma. From 1989 to 1994, 19 patients (age range, 18-79 years; mean, 51.2 years) underwent radical resection of extremity sarcomas followed by immediate reconstruction.
