Background: The immunological effects of treatment with exclusive enteral nutrition (EEN) in Crohn's disease (CD) remain unknown. We characterized the plasma levels of inflammation-related proteins (IRPs) in children with CD and ulcerative colitis (UC) compared with noninflammatory controls (non-IBD) and explored the effect of EEN in CD.

Methods: Ninety-two IRPs were quantified using Olink proteomics in children with CD (n = 53), UC (n = 11), and non-IBD (n = 19).

The Gigii-Bapiimin study explored the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health and wellbeing of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people living with HIV in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, two provinces in Canada with alarmingly high rates of HIV infections. Participants ( = 28 in Manitoba and  = 23 in Saskatchewan) were recruited using various methods, including flyers, community organizations, peers, and social media. The qualitative interviews focused on the pandemic's impact on health, access to services, and ceremonies.

The immunological effects of exclusive enteral nutrition (EEN) in the treatment of active Crohn's disease (CD) are yet to be unveiled. The present study investigated changes in peripheral blood mononuclear cell profiles in children with active CD following 8-week treatment with EEN. In nine children, EEN significantly decreased the number and frequency of circulating effector memory CD8 T cells re-expressing CD45RA, with corresponding increases observed in the frequency of circulating central and effector memory CD8 T cells.

Tissue homeostasis relies on rewiring of stem cell transcriptional programs into those of differentiated cells. Here, we investigate changes in chromatin occurring in a bipotent adult stem cells. Combining mapping of chromatin-associated factors with statistical modeling, we identify genome-wide transitions during differentiation in the adult Drosophila intestinal stem cell (ISC) lineage.

During development and aging, genome mutation leading to loss of heterozygosity (LOH) can uncover recessive phenotypes within tissue compartments. This phenomenon occurs in normal human tissues and is prevalent in pathological genetic conditions and cancers. While studies in yeast have defined DNA repair mechanisms that can promote LOH, the predominant pathways and environmental triggers in somatic tissues of multicellular organisms are not well understood.
