Background: The successful weight loss following bariatric surgery is not achieved in all patients with morbid obesity (MO). This study aims to determine whether a serum miRNA profile can predict this outcome.

Design: Thirty-three patients with MO were classified in "Good Responders" (GR, percentage of excess weight loss (%EWL) ≥ 50 %) or "Non-Responders" (NR, %EWL < 50 %) according to the %EWL 5-8 year following bariatric surgery.

Introduction: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive lung disease often complicated by sarcopenia, significantly impacting patient outcomes. This study investigates the prevalence and clinical implications of sarcopenia in IPF patients using morphofunctional assessment methods.

Materials And Methods: Eighty-four IPF patients (predominantly male) were evaluated for sarcopenia using the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People 2 (EWGSOP2) criteria.

Background: The gut microbiome has been reported to induce epigenetic modifications in the host, which may be involved in the pathophysiology of metabolic diseases.

Objective: To evaluate the potential interactions between the gut microbiome and DNA methylome in subjects with different metabolic characteristics.

Methods: Sixty-four participants with different metabolic characteristics (i.

Background: The role of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) in sleeve gastrectomy (SG)-related outcomes remains uncertain. In this study, we aimed to assess the influence of preoperative biopsy-proven MASLD and its stages on weight loss after SG.

Methods: One hundred sixty-three patients with obesity undergoing SG with concomitant intraoperative liver biopsy were followed up for 1 year.

Background: Body composition (BC) techniques, including bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIVA), nutritional ultrasound (NU), and computed tomography (CT), can detect nutritional diagnoses such as sarcopenia (Sc). Sc in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is associated with greater severity and lower survival. Our aim was to explore the correlation of BIVA, NU and functional parameters with BC at T12 level CT scans in patients with IPF but also its relationship with degree of Sc, malnutrition and mortality.
