Background: The hybrid imaging positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance (PET/MR) is an important tool in the management of pediatric oncology patients, particularly in malignant musculoskeletal pathologies, because it combines the functional and metabolic information of tumor provided by PET with the high soft-tissue contrast and the functional information offered by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Methods: We performed an observational retrospective study that included pediatric patients diagnosed with primary bone or soft-tissue sarcomas in the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Unit at the HM Montepríncipe University Hospital, Boadilla del Monte, Madrid (Spain) who underwent whole-body F-fluorodeoxyglucose (F-FDG) PET/MRI as a staging study and for follow-up evaluation for treatment response from September 2017 to January 2023. This study explores the protocols, the practical application of the PET/MRI technique and our clinical experience at our center in the diagnosis and follow-up of primary bone tumors and soft-tissue sarcomas in children.

Introduction: Surgery is the standard treatment for pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNETs), obtaining favorable results but associating high morbidity and mortality rates. This study assesses stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) as a radical approach for small (< 2 cm) nonfunctioning pNETs.

Materials And Methods: From January 2017 to June 2023, 20 patients with small pNETs underwent SBRT in an IRB-approved study.

Background: The nigrostriatal system is especially vulnerable to neurodegeneration in Parkinson's disease (PD) and the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a limiting factor for delivery of therapeutic agents to the brain. This pilot study aimed to demonstrate safety, feasibility and tissue penetration (by 18F-Choline-positron emission tomography (PET)) of MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) simultaneous BBB opening (BBB-O) in the substantia nigra (SN) and putamen in PD.

MRI is the cornerstone in the evaluation of brain metastases. The clinical challenges lie in discriminating metastases from mimickers such as infections or primary tumors and in evaluating the response to treatment. The latter sometimes leads to growth, which must be framed as pseudo-progression or radionecrosis, both inflammatory phenomena attributable to treatment, or be considered as recurrence.

Background And Purpose: The microtubule-associated protein tau (MAPT) H1 homozygosity (H1/H1 haplotype) is a genetic risk factor for neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson's disease (PD). MAPT H1 homozygosity has been associated with conversion to PD; however, results are conflicting since some studies did not find a strong influence. Cortical hypometabolism is associated with cognitive impairment in PD.
