Wood-plastic composites (WPC) combine the properties of polymers and wood, providing an attractive alternative to traditional materials, particularly for terrace flooring. When exposed to various environmental conditions, WPCs are affected by factors, such as water and ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Although most test methods for assessing the durability of these products have focused on changes in mechanical properties and linear dimensions, out-of-plane deformations (concavity and convexity) are often overlooked.

A key property in the manufacture of toecaps for protective footwear is resistance to impacts, deformations, and cracking, as the resulting defects may lead to serious workplace accidents involving the lower extremities. The present paper proposes a new approach to qualitative verification of toecap design based on numerical simulations of impact tests. Computational experiments were conducted for toecaps made from different materials (AISI 10450, S235, S355 and A36 steels, as well as Lexan polycarbonate) and characterized by different geometries, which were recreated by 3D scanning.

The diagnostic value was assessed of the examination of artery stenosis in lower extremities by the Doppler method, and the results were compared with diagnosis made by means of arteriography, and intraoperatively. The analysis included 40 patients with atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus, and Buerger disease. Ultrasonic normal values were determined for healthy arteries, and for insignificant and significant stenosis.

In 1983-1988, the results of conservative and surgical treatment of patients with atherosclerotic ischemia of the lower limbs were assessed with the aid of a questionnaire. A possibility of prognosis was assessed with the use of mathematically processed data obtained with such approach. An effect of clinical symptoms (intermittent claudication distance, resting pain, necrosis) and stage of the disease (duration, K/R index) and risk factors (blood cholesterol, triglycerides, diabetes mellitus, ischemic heart disease, arterial hypertension) on the result of surgical treatment was analysed.
