Chrysin (5,7-dihydroxyflavone) is a natural flavonoid with potential anxiolytic-like effects in preclinical models. Acute treatment with this molecule (0 - 10 mg/kg) produced a biphasic dose-response in the zebrafish light/dark test (LDT), with anxiolytic-like effect at low doses and anxiogenic-like effects at high doses. Chrysin (1 mg/kg) decreased anxiety-like behavior in the zebrafish novel tank test (NTT), but did not prevent the anxiogenic effects of acute stress.

Article Synopsis
  • - Untargeted metabolomics, often reliant on data-dependent acquisition (DDA), has limitations in fragmenting all detected ions and specificity, prompting the development of a dynamic procedure to enhance detection of biological signals.
  • - The study analyzed three species of actinomycetes using liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry, employing MZmine for preprocessing and a custom tool, RegFilter, for data processing.
  • - RegFilter improved ion detection by covering the whole chromatographic run and allowed for the annotation of biologically relevant candidates, thus serving as a valuable complement to DDA and enabling the creation of customized spectral libraries.

Objective: To evaluate the orofacial myofunctional characteristics, masticatory performance and facial thermal profile in individuals with Parkinson disease (PD) and spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA3), comparing with healthy control ones.

Method: Seventy-two participants aged between 30 and 85 years were evaluated and divided into PD, SCA3 and control groups. The assessments included clinical evaluation using the Orofacial Myofunctional Evaluation with Scores protocol (orofacial structures, mastication, swallowing and breathing aspects), masticatory performance assessed with a colour-changeable chewing gum and infrared thermography.

In this contribution, nanocatalysts with rather diverse architectures were designed to promote different intimacy degrees between Cu and SiO and consequently tune distinct Cu-SiO interactions. Previously synthesized copper nanoparticles were deposited onto SiO (NPCu/SiO) in contrast to ordinarily prepared supported Cu/SiO. NPCu@SiO and SiO@Cu core-shell nanocatalysts were also synthesized, and they were all bulk and surface characterized by XRD, TGA, TEM/HRTEM, H-TPR, XANES, and XPS.

Nitric oxide (NO) is a molecule involved in plasticity across levels and systems. The role of NOergic pathways in stress-induced sensitization (SIS) of behavioral responses, in which a particular stressor triggers a state of hyper-responsiveness to other stressors after an incubation period, was assessed in adult zebrafish. In this model, adult zebrafish acutely exposed to a fear-inducing conspecific alarm substance (CAS) and left undisturbed for an incubation period show increased anxiety-like behavior 24 h after exposure.
