Background And Purpose: Intraoperative periprosthetic femoral fractures (IPFFs) can occur during primary total hip arthroplasty (THA). We describe the incidence of IPFFs during THA in Norway and estimate potential risk factors that could be associated with IPFF Patients and methods - Data from the Norwegian Arthoplasty Register (1987-2020) was used: 2,268 IPFFs from 218,423 primary THAs in 172,598 patients. The following factors were analyzed: sex, age, diagnosis, previous operation on the same hip, surgical approach, and stem fixation technique.

A novel gain-of-function mutation in SCN5A responsible for multifocal ectopic Purkinje-related premature contractions.

Recently, four SCN5A mutations have been associated with Multifocal Ectopic Purkinje-related Premature Contractions (MEPPC), a rare cardiac syndrome combining polymorphic ventricular arrhythmia with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Here, we identified a novel heterozygous mutation in SCN5A (c.611C>A, pAla204Glu) in a young woman presenting with polymorphic premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) and DCM.

Typologies in GPs' referral practice.

Background: GPs' individual decisions to refer and the various ways of working when they refer are important determinants of secondary care use. The objective of this study was to explore and describe potential characteristics of GPs' referral practice by investigating their opinions about referring and their self-reported experiences of what they do when they refer.

Methods: Observational cross-sectional study using data from 128 Norwegian GPs who filled in a questionnaire with statements on how they regarded the referral process, and who were invited to collect data when they actually referred to hospital during one month.

Atypical femoral fractures in elderly women: a fracture registry-based cohort study.

An atypical femoral fracture (AFF), with a transverse fracture radiologically through the lateral cortex is a rare but serious condition. In order to improve our ability to identify patients with this condition, we retrospectively surveyed all subtrochanteric, peri-implant and diaphyseal femoral fractures in patients aged ≥ 65 years who underwent surgical treatment at our hospital between 2004 and 2011. We describe the incidence of atypical fractures and their characteristics, with observational data including a review of the hospital and general practitioner records.
