Background: With 100,000 total knee arthroplasty (TKA) procedures taking place in the United Kingdom annually, the demand on rehabilitation services is high. Most regimes are home-based. Without clinician-patient interaction, detection of rehabilitation concerns can be delayed, reducing the chance of successful early intervention.

Background: Patients with osteoporosis demonstrate increased vascular calcification but the effect of osteoporosis treatments on vascular calcification remains unclear. The present study aimed to examine whether coronary or aortic calcification are influenced by denosumab and alendronic acid treatment.

Methods And Results: In a double-blind randomized controlled SALTIRE2 (Study Investigating the Effect of Drugs Used to Treat Osteoporosis on the Progression of Calcific Aortic Stenosis) trial, patients with aortic stenosis were randomized 2:1:2:1 to denosumab, placebo injection, alendronic acid, or placebo capsule.

Objective: This review aimed to determine if gait training interventions influence lower extremity biomechanics during walking in individuals with chronic ankle instability (CAI).

Methods: A literature search was conducted in PubMed, CINAHL, SPORTDiscus, and MEDLINE to identify English-language studies from inception through September 2022. Eligible studies included randomized control trials, repeated measures design, and descriptive laboratory studies measuring the effects during or following a gait training intervention on biomechanical outcomes (kinematics, kinetics, electromyography) during walking in individuals with CAI.

Article Synopsis
  • The CARE pilot trial is testing if surgery or medical treatment is better for people with a brain condition called cerebral cavernous malformation.
  • Researchers faced challenges recruiting enough people for the trial, so they used a special method called the QuinteT Recruitment Intervention to improve the process.
  • They found some problems that made it hard to recruit participants, like disagreements among doctors, but also discovered some doctors were willing to offer surgery, which helped get more people involved.

Article Synopsis
  • Coronary F-sodium fluoride (F-fluoride) uptake indicates activity and progression of atherosclerotic disease, but its changes over time remain unclear, especially in patients with unstable coronary artery disease.
  • A study followed 111 patients (59 with chronic coronary artery disease and 52 post-myocardial infarction) over 12 months using PET and CT angiography to measure coronary microcalcification activity (CMA) and calcification scores.
  • Results showed that while coronary F-fluoride uptake correlated with greater disease severity and faster calcification progression, it did not show significant changes over the one-year period in either patient group.
