Systematic review of associations between anxiety, depression, and functional/biological aging among cancer survivors.

Background: Evidence suggests a mind-body component to aging through which psychological distress from anxiety and depression drives molecular changes that promote early decline (ie, accelerated aging). Cancer survivors experience particularly high rates of anxiety and depression. Some survivors also have accelerated aging, though the relationships between anxiety and depression and aging are not clear.

Seasonal dynamics of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria but not archaea influence soil nitrogen cycling in a semi-arid agricultural soil.

Nitrification, a key pathway of nitrogen (N) loss from agricultural soils, is performed by ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and archaea (AOA). We examined the seasonal dynamics (2 years) of ammonia oxidizer gene abundances across a gradient of soil carbon (C) and N in a semi-arid soil after 8 years of tillage and crop residue treatments. AOB was more dominant than AOA in the surface soil, as AOA were undetected in 96% of samples.

Integrated care in rural health: Seeking sustainability.

Introduction: The increased awareness of the financial impact associated with social determinants of health coincides with expectations of the Affordable Care Act (HR 3590) to improve care while reducing costs. The integration of behavioral health providers (BHPs) into primary care has demonstrated improved clinical outcomes. This study was designed with 2 aims, including the evaluation of the financial viability of an integrated care model in a rural setting and the demonstration of incorporating practice-based research into clinical work.

Incorporating bolus and infusion pharmacokinetics into the ICING insulin model.

The ICING model has been successfully used to guide clinical decisions on insulin administration in critical illness. However, insulin pharmacokinetics in the ICING model can be improved to better describe both intravenous (IV) bolus and infusion insulin administration. Patient data from 217 Dynamic Insulin Sensitivity and Secretion Tests (DISST) and 36 Intravenous Glucose Tolerance Tests (IVGTT) from independent dietary intervention studies was used to fit model parameters to a model structure that conforms to known behaviour.
