Mucormycosis are infrequent filamentous fungal infections, but severe and with high mortality (20 to 50%). Symptoms are very common, like necrosis, and burn/polytrauma patients have a higher risk of mucormycosis than the general population. We report here the history of a 38-year-old man, polytraumatized and burned because of a tractor incident.

Background: Dipeptidyl peptidase-3 (DPP3) is a metallopeptidase which cleaves bioactive peptides, notably angiotensin II, and is involved in inflammation regulation. DPP3 has been proposed to be a myocardial depressant factor and to be involved in circulatory failure in acute illnesses, possibly due to angiotensin II cleavage. In this study, we evaluated the association between plasmatic DPP3 level and outcome (mortality and hemodynamic failure) in severely ill burn patients.

[Awake intubation using Pentax Airway Scope as an alternative to awake fiberoptic intubation in management of anticipated difficult tracheal intubation in major burn patients].

Intubating patients with facial burn is difficult to most anesthesiologists. Awake flexible fiberoptic intubation is the gold standard for management of anticipated difficult tracheal intubation. However, serious facial burn and dysmorphic syndrome can make fiberoptic intubation more difficult or impossible.
