Overview of the Sciomyzidae (Diptera: Sciomyzoidea) of the Americas south of the United States.

Treated herein are the 113 described species and two described subspecies in 25 genera of the family Sciomyzidae (snail-killing or marsh flies) known from the Americas south of the United States. Included are details on type specimens, references to generic transfers and synonymies, taxonomy, biology, gastropod hosts/prey, immature stages, chromosomes, biological and phenological groups, general distribution, and molecular data. Annotated keys are presented to adults of genera known from the Nearctic-Neotropical interface area and the Neotropics as well as the first key to all sciomyzid genera known from the Nearctic Region.

The effect of increased collect pump rate on collection efficiency in hematopoietic progenitor cell collection by apheresis in allogeneic adult donors-A single center analysis.

Background: Optimizing CD34 recovery while minimizing harm to hematopoietic progenitor cell donors by apheresis (HPC(A) donors) is critical to the success of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation. We examined the efficacy and safety of starting allogeneic HPC(A) donors at a collect pump rate (CPR) of 2 mL/min on the Spectra Optia regardless of the inlet flow rate and/or pre-apheresis white blood cell (WBC) count (high CPR group).

Study Design And Methods: A single-center retrospective study was performed on allogeneic adult donors from 10/2020 to 12/2022.

Dental Anesthesia for Medical Providers: A Novel Interprofessional Course.

Purpose: To limit the use of opioids for nontraumatic dental conditions in emergency settings, the physician assistant (PA) and dental faculty at A.T. Still University designed a course that teaches PA students to administer dental anesthesia.

Impact of the FilmArray meningitis/encephalitis panel on antimicrobial duration among patients with suspected central nervous system infection.

Ten controlled studies evaluated antimicrobial use following implementation of the FilmArray meningitis and encephalitis panel versus usual care. Only one-half of studies identified significant reductions in antibiotic duration, with 8/10 reporting modest reductions for acyclovir. Coupling the FilmArray meningitis and encephalitis panel with interventions by antimicrobial stewardship programs may help enhance its clinical impact.
