Improving the physical health of overweight/obese people suffering from severe mental disorders: What is the role of antipsychotic drugs and of lifestyle psychosocial interventions?

People with severe mental disorders experience premature mortality compared with the general population. Several factors contribute to the mortality gap, including the adoption of unhealthy lifestyle behaviours, poor screening for physical illnesses, difficulties in accessing healthcare facilities, specific clinical features of mental disorders and some pharmacological treatment such as antipsychotic medications with serious metabolic side effects. In the present study, carried out in the framework of the LIFESTYLE trial, a funded nationwide multicentric study, we aimed to assess the impact of different antipsychotics in mediating the effectiveness of psychosocial intervention on healthy lifestyle behaviours.

Exploring the relationship among hikikomori tendencies, autistic traits, computer game use and eating disorder symptoms.

Objective: The hikikomori phenomenon has recently gained growing global interest, and evidences of its association with other psychopathological dimensions are slowly but steadily emerging. We aimed to evaluate the presence and correlates of hikikomori tendencies in an Italian University population, focusing on its relationships with autism spectrum, pathological computer gaming, and eating disorders. In particular, to our knowledge, no study has yet systematically evaluated the latter association, using psychometric instruments tailored to assess eating disorder symptoms.

Prevalence of orthorexia nervosa in clinical and non-clinical populations: a systematic review.

Objective: Orthorexia nervosa (ON) is characterized by the pursuit of extreme dietary purity due to an exaggerated focus on food quality that could ultimately lead to a new kind of eating disorder. Even though researchers have tried to reach a univocal description of ON, to this date, there is no consensus on its diagnostic criteria, making it considerably more difficult to develop a valid questionnaire for assessing the symptoms of ON and to assess its actual prevalence. The aim of this review was to evaluate and gather scientific evidence about the prevalence of ON in both clinical and non-clinical adult populations, using the main validated scale for ON evaluation.

The Economic Impact of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Among Patients with Systemic Autoimmune Diseases During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Background: The present work aimed to estimate the economic impact of PTSD following COVID-19 in a population of patients affected by systemic autoimmune disease (SAD) using a cost-of-illness approach and accounting for the perspective of society.

Methods: Considering data collected from SAD patients enrolled in a specialized outpatient clinic in the Tuscany region, Italy, generalized linear models and LASSO logistic regression were used to evaluate the impact of PTSD on costs and its relevance as a possible predictor of being a high-cost patient, respectively.

Results: Considering 301 SAD patients, 161 (51.
