Coinfection with Dolphin Morbillivirus (DMV) and Gammaherpesvirus in a Spinner Dolphin () Stranded in Sri Lanka.

Following the X-Press Pearl maritime disaster off the coast of Sri Lanka, a stranded spinner dolphin () was recovered, and the cause of death was investigated. Post-mortem examinations revealed evidence of by-catch, but a natural coinfection with dolphin morbillivirus (DMV) and gammaherpesvirus was detected by further analyses, marking the first documented case of a dual viral infection in this species within the region. Molecular diagnostics, including PCR and sequencing, were performed on tissue imprints collected on FTA cards, confirming the presence of DMV in the prescapular lymph node and gammaherpesvirus in the lesions in the oral cavity.

Impact of dental fluorosis on the oral health related quality of life of adolescents in an endemic area.

Introduction: Oral diseases and conditions affect the physical, social, and psychological well-being of an individual. The aim of this study was to determine the association between the severity of dental fluorosis and oral health related quality of life (OHRQoL) among 15-year-old school children residing in an endemic area for dental fluorosis in Sri Lanka.

Design: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 989, 15-year-old school children who were lifetime residents of Kurunegala district.

Toothbrushing practices as risk factors for dental fluorosis in an area with varying fluoride levels in drinking water.

Background: Despite contributing to a reduction in dental caries, improper use of fluoridated toothpaste could add to the burden of dental fluorosis in children.

Aim: To assess the association between tooth-brushing practices such as the type and amount of toothpaste used, frequency of tooth brushing, parental assistance in tooth brushing, timing of tooth brushing and dental fluorosis in school children in Kurunegala district, an endemic area for dental fluorosis in Sri Lanka.

Methods: For this case-control study, a sex-matched sample of 15-year-old school children attending government schools in Kurunegala district and who were lifetime residents of the district was selected.

Response and Survival Estimates of Patients With Plasma Cell Myeloma in a Resource-Constrained Setting Using Protocols From High-Income Countries: A Single-Center Experience From Sri Lanka.

Purpose: There is a significant disparity in global cancer care and outcome between countries. Progress in the treatment of symptomatic plasma cell myeloma (PCM) in high-income countries is not seen in low- and middle-income countries.

Materials And Methods: This is was a retrospective cohort study of all patients diagnosed with PCM between May 1, 2013, and September 30, 2021, at the first hemato-oncology center in Sri Lanka.

An Unusual Presentation of Crohn's Disease and Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis.

Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are chronic inflammatory gastrointestinal bowel disorders that may affect any part of the alimentary tract. Classically, these two diseases have hallmark associations, such as UC with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). We present a case of a healthy 21-year-old white female with concomitant CD and PSC, complicated by a biliary stricture requiring stent placement.
