Exercise increases blood and lymph flow in working muscles, potentially affecting the bioavailability and effect of subcutaneously administered drugs. The aim of this study was to assess the influence of a single exercise session on pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of a single dose of subcutaneously administered unfractionated heparin. In a crossover design, 15 healthy males underwent four experimental days where 15,000 IU of unfractionated heparin was injected subcutaneously into the thigh of the non-dominant leg.

Ablation of the immune-specific catalytic subunit Cβ2 of protein kinase A is associated with a proinflammatory phenotype and increased sensitivity to autoimmunity in mice. Here we show that tumour growth of the adenocarcinoma cell line EO771 in the breast and in the lung after injection into the mammary fat pad and tail vein, respectively, was significantly reduced in mice ablated for Cβ2 compared to wild-type mice. In both cases, the breast and lung tumours showed increased infiltration of immune cells in the mice lacking Cβ2 compared to wild-type mice.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic potential of soluble CD163 (sCD163) in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Preoperative serum samples from 255 patients with PDAC were analyzed for sCD163 using a commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The diagnostic value of sCD163 was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves.

The lack of inadequate preclinical models remains a limitation for cancer drug development and is a primary contributor to anti-cancer drug failures in clinical trials. Heterotypic multicellular spheroids are three-dimensional (3D) spherical structures generated by self-assembly from aggregates of two or more cell types. Compared to traditional monolayer cell culture models, the organization of cells into a 3D tissue-like structure favors relevant physiological conditions with chemical and physical gradients as well as cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix (ECM) interactions that recapitulate many of the hallmarks of cancer .

The ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has led to the initiation of unprecedented research efforts to understand the pathogenesis mediated by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). More knowledge is needed regarding the cell type-specific cytopathology and its impact on cellular tropism. Furthermore, the impact of novel SARS-CoV-2 mutations on cellular tropism, alternative routes of entry, the impact of co-infections, and virus replication kinetics along the respiratory tract remains to be explored in improved models.
