A higher K-pNPPase activity was found in erythrocyte membrane preparations from the SHR as compared with the Wistar rats. Removal of peripheral proteins from the membrane skeleton depressed the K-phosphatase activity and eliminated the difference between the SHR and Wistar rats. No activating effect of the ATP and Ca on the enzyme was found.

A total of 116 subjects with borderline hypertension, 67 relatives of normotensive probands and 29 relatives of hypertensive probands were examined. The activity of Na,K-ATPase in the red blood cells and pulmonary hemodynamics were studied by kinetocardiography. The normotensives with a family history of essential hypertension and subjects with borderline hypertension were found to have elevated pulmonary systolic pressure.

The activity and properties of Na,K-ATPase in erythrocytes and their membrane preparations (ghosts) from 34 subjects with borderline hypertension and 21 normotensive controls were studied. The Na,K-ATPase activity was found to be by 43% lower as compared to control group. No changes in the Na,K-ATPase activity were revealed in the ghosts of borderline subjects.

Studies have been made on the content of glycogen and the activity of glucose-6-phosphatase in tissues of adult frog Rana temporaria (liver, brain, pia mater, n. ischiadicus, fast and slow muscles) and tadpoles (liver, tail muscles). It was found that the enzymic activity is somewhat higher in the liver of tadpoles than that in the liver of adult frogs, being low in the tail muscles.

Glycogen content and glucose-6-phosphatase activity were determined in the both proximal and distal parts of the ligatured ischiadicus nerve of the frog. The results show that endogenous glycogen stores (or derived from them glucose) can move along the nerve and can be utilised in ischiadicus nerve metabolism. These data support our earlier findings that glycogen biosynthesis depends on glucose-6-phosphatase activity.
