Development of a Large-Volume Concentration Method to Recover Infectious Avian Influenza Virus from the Aquatic Environment.

Since late 2021, outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza virus have caused a record number of mortalities in wild birds, domestic poultry, and mammals in North America. Wetlands are plausible environmental reservoirs of avian influenza virus; however, the transmission and persistence of the virus in the aquatic environment are poorly understood. To explore environmental contamination with the avian influenza virus, a large-volume concentration method for detecting infectious avian influenza virus in waterbodies was developed.

Evaluation of aortic stent endoleaks in the renally impaired patient with ferumoxytol-enhanced MR angiography.

Purpose: To evaluate ferumoxytol-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (FE-MRA) for assessment of endoleaks in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) status post endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR).

Methods: Of 1854 patients who underwent FE-MRA at a single institution between 03/21/2014 and 08/21/2023, 21 patients with a history of AAA and CKD status post EVAR were retrospectively identified (IRB #13-001341). Multiplanar pre- and post-contrast HASTE, T1-VIBE, and high-resolution breath-held 3D MRA sequences were obtained, where a dose of 4 mg/kg of Ferumoxytol was infused over six minutes.

The Roadmap to Integrate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Hematology Clinical Trials: An American Society of Hematology Initiative.

Clinical trial design for classical hematologic diseases is difficult because samples sizes are often small and not representative of the disease population. ASH initiated a Roadmap project to identify barriers and make progress to integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion into trial design and conduct. Focus groups of international experts from across the clinical trial ecosystem were conducted.

Machine learning and molecular dynamics simulations aided insights into condensate ring formation in laser spot welding.

Condensate ring formation can be used as a benchmark in welding processes to assess the efficiency and quality of the weld. Condensate formation is critical as the resulting condensate settles into the powder thereby altering the quality of unconsolidated powder. This study investigates the intricate relationship between alloy composition, vapor pressure, and condensate ring thickness as seen in a two-dimensional micrograph.

Assessing the validity of a self-reported clinical diagnosis of schizophrenia.

The increasing availability of biobanks is changing the way individuals are identified for genomic research. This study assesses the validity of a self-reported clinical diagnosis of schizophrenia. The study included 1744 clinically-ascertained participants with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder depressed-type (SA-D) diagnosed by self-report and/or research interview and 1453 UK Biobank participants with self-reported and/or medical record diagnosis of schizophrenia or SA-D.
