Molecular Epidemiology of Oropouche Virus, Ceará State, Brazil, 2024.

During May-December 2024, we detected Oropouche virus (OROV) in 13.9% (263/1,890) of febrile patients in Ceará state, Brazil. Genomic sequencing revealed those cases were caused by a novel OROV reassortant previously identified in the Amazon region.

Direct and Volatile Potential Applications of Essential Oils for Post-Harvest Fungi Control.

Around one third of food production is lost globally, significantly impacting food security, primarily due to post-harvest deterioration from phytopathogenic fungi. This study aimed to assess the antifungal properties of essential oils (EOs) from Syzygium aromaticum, Origanum vulgare L., Cymbopogon martini, Cymbopogon citratus, Mentha spicata, and Mentha piperita against three fungi affecting tropical fruits: Lasiodiplodia theobromae, Alternaria alternata, and Fusarium solani.

Raman spectroscopy for forensic pen ink investigation: a review.

The performance of Raman spectroscopy (RS) has improved in recent years due to the significant advantages of its use in various fields, such as archaeology, medicine, foods, and forensics. An aspect of great relevance in forensic investigation is preserving criminal evidence, and nondestructive techniques for analysis are needed. RS has great potential for characterizing pen inks in questioned documents, and it has even been considered promising for trace intersection and dating investigations.

The new map of Argentine population exposed to arsenic in drinking water.

This study aims to evaluate the population exposed to arsenic in Argentina, proposing a key risk indicator. By employing specific criteria selection, a systematic search of the published evidence on arsenic content in drinking water samples at the provincial level was carried out. Considering the limit recommended by the WHO - 10 μg/L - representativeness of evidence was calculated, as well as the percentage of exposed population (PEP) to high levels of arsenic.

Outpatient Management of Clinical Comorbidities in Children With Cerebral Palsy in Low- and Middle-Income Countries.

Background: Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common physical disability of childhood. Its prevalence in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs) is over 3/1000 live births, about double the 1.6/1000 in high income countries (HICs).
