Article Synopsis
  • Pneumatic spaces in the temporal bone can allow for the spread of diseases like tumors and infections into the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and vice versa.
  • A study analyzed 100 high-resolution CT scans, revealing varying prevalence rates of these pneumatic spaces: 52% in the roof of the TMJ fossa, 12% in the articular eminence, 5% in the zygomatic process, and 56% in the peritubal area, with a tendency for bilateral presence.
  • The findings underscore the importance of understanding these pneumatic spaces for better interpretation of imaging studies and insight into potential pathological processes affecting the TMJ.

Background: Median maxillary labial frenum (MMLF) appears as a fold of mucous membrane extending from the lining of the mucous membrane of the lips towards the crest of the alveolar ridge on the labial surface. MMLF can demonstrate certain variations in their shape, size and position, both among individuals and within the same individual at different ages. Many clinicians, not being aware of the normal variations of median maxillary labial frenum misinterpret them as pathological entities.

Objective: The back-to-school stress survey was designed to compare stress in parents of children/ adolescents with/without attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in six European countries and Canada when children prepare to return to school.

Methods: Parents of children/adolescents (6-17 years) with/without ADHD were recruited and interviewed by a consumer research organization. Parents rated potentially stress-causing situations (both standard and specifically related to the return to school) on a scale from 1 (low stress) to 10 (high stress).

We investigated the efficacy of human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) and ovarian steroids in the maintenance/interruption of pregnancy in normal pregnant rats. Holtzman's strain rats were laparotomized to observe the number of implantations. In this study, continuous administration of HCG (5 IU) to normal pregnant rats, from day 8 through days 14 or 19, interrupted gestation, resulting in fetal resorption with many placentomas and placental scars.

The differentiation and development of the testis in the lizard Calotes versicolor was studied histologically and histoenzymatically from the day of oviposition (stage 27) to 2 months after hatching. The study reveals the appearance of the gonadal component as a genital ridge at stage 27. The first sign of testis differentiation is observed at stage 33, which displays a well-developed medulla consisting of seminiferous cords comprising Pre-Sertoli cells.
