Personality-Related Factors and Depressive Symptomatology Predict Behavioral Control in Patients With Alcohol Use Disorders.

In the face of increasing social, economic, and health consequences of alcohol use disorders (AUDs) and limited effects of available treatment options, the search for novel prevention and management methods continues to remain a timely and valid endeavor. This, however, requires a better grasp of the theoretical framework underlying addiction mechanisms. With the goal to extend the existing body of evidence on AUDs, we set out to investigate the effect of personality-related factors and depressive symptomatology on (i) impulsivity, (ii) cognitive response inhibition, and (iii) the links between the two measures of behavioral control (different facets of impulsivity and response inhibition) in a treatment-seeking AUD sample.

Discourse and Strategic Use of the Military in France and Europe in the COVID-19 Crisis.

In March 2020, the French President called to war against the COVID-19 which was followed by the launch of a military operation called Operation Resilience. This use of martial rhetoric initiated an effective mobilisation consisting in logistical assistance to the health sector. While armies are increasingly used to deal with environmental disasters, aside from their traditional role, this paper postulates that the geography of the French and international military engagement can be used to analyse both the institutional strategy of crisis management and the message governments send to their population.

Factors Associated With Excessive Gestational Weight Gain: Review of Current Literature.

Background: Excessive gestational weight gain (EGWG) places women at increased risk for complications during pregnancy and also increases the likelihood that they will remain overweight after pregnancy. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) has recommended weight gain guidelines based on pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI), but evidence-based strategies to achieve these goals are limited.

Objective: This review discusses factors associated with EGWG with the goal of identifying targets for future intervention.

Barriers to Immediate Post-placental Intrauterine Devices among Attending Level Educators.

Objective: To determine whether barriers to immediate post-placental intrauterine device (PPIUD) placement exist at the provider level.

Study Design: Obstetrics providers at seven academic teaching hospitals in Massachusetts were asked to complete an electronic survey regarding their knowledge, experience, and opinions about immediate PPIUDs.

Results: Eighty-two providers, including obstetricians, family medicine physicians, and midwives, completed the survey.

The evolutionarily conserved cohesin complex was originally described for its role in regulating sister-chromatid cohesion during mitosis and meiosis. Cohesin and its regulatory proteins have been implicated in several human developmental disorders, including Cornelia de Lange (CdLS) and Roberts syndromes.
