Highly mutable pathogens generate viral diversity that impacts virulence, transmissibility, treatment, and thwarts acquired immunity. We previously described C19-SPAR-Seq, a high-throughput, next-generation sequencing platform to detect SARS-CoV-2 that we here deployed to systematically profile variant dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 for over 3 years in a large, North American urban environment (Toronto, Canada). Sequencing of the ACE2 receptor binding motif and polybasic furin cleavage site of the Spike gene in over 70,000 patients revealed that population sweeps of canonical variants of concern (VOCs) occurred in repeating wavelets.

This contribution begins from Winnicott's introduction of the incommunicado self in his paper on communication to suggest that interiority and the psyche come to constitute the infantile world through the earliest environment and through solitude. The capacity to be with others and to be alone originate in an earlier state where communication both makes no sense and yet contains the origin of the life source through the baby's bodily experience of self and world. The world beyond the baby enables this through an other's care.

Background: Urogynecologic literature confirms that pelvic floor disorders are detrimental to sexual function in heterosexual women and that sexual function improves following treatment. Few data exist regarding these issues in women who have sex with women, potentially affecting patient-provider interactions, treatment choices and outcomes.

Objective: To describe sexual function concerns of women with pelvic floor disorders among women who have sex with women.

The mechanisms that ensure developmental progression in the early human embryo remain largely unknown. Here, we show that the family of long interspersed nuclear element 1 (LINE1) transposons prevents the reversion of naive human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) to 8-cell-like cells (8CLCs). LINE1 RNA contributes to maintenance of H3K27me3 levels, particularly at chromosome 19 (Chr19).

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to validate an alternative measure of anaerobic contribution, called AOD_alt, against the traditional method, Accumulated Oxygen Deficit (AOD).
  • In two experiments, participants performed intense cycling exercises in both normal (normoxia) and low oxygen (hypoxia) conditions while physiological responses were measured.
  • Results showed that AOD_alt was correlated with AOD in most conditions, confirming AOD_alt as a valid measure of anaerobic capacity, especially during severe exercise and in hypoxic environments.
