This paper describes a mechanistic study on double boron-silicon exchange reactions between dibenzosiloles and boron tribromide. This type of reaction presents a safe and environmentally benign approach to convert electron-rich siloles into corresponding electron-deficient boroles and hence shows intriguing potential for the synthesis of boron-doped π-conjugated molecular materials. However, the detailed mechanisms for such reactions have not yet been established in the current literature.

Article Synopsis
  • The total synthesis of tanshinone IIA, a bioactive diterpene from a Chinese plant, was achieved using a common tetralin building block.
  • Key methods in the synthesis included creating a 3,4-disubstituted furan and employing regioselective C-H functionalization reactions, like Pd-catalyzed iodination and Ir-catalyzed borylation.
  • An intramolecular stanna-Brook type reaction was utilized to build the quinone ring structure of the target compound.

Objectives: This trial examines the impact of the Provider Awareness and Cultural dexterity Toolkit for Surgeons (PACTS) curriculum on surgical residents' knowledge, cross-cultural care, skills, and beliefs.

Background: Cross-cultural training of providers may reduce health care outcome disparities, but its effectiveness in surgical trainees is unknown.

Methods: PACTS focuses on developing skills needed for building trust, working with patients with limited English proficiency, optimizing informed consent, and managing pain.

Objective: An expert panel made recommendations to optimize surgical education and training based on the effects of contemporary challenges.

Background: The inaugural Blue Ribbon Committee (BRC I) proposed sweeping recommendations for surgical education and training in 2004. In light of those findings, a second BRC (BRC II) was convened to make recommendations to optimize surgical training considering the current landscape in medical education.

Background: The lack of consensus on equity measurement and its incorporation into quality-assessment programs at the hospital and system levels may be a barrier to addressing disparities in surgical care. This study aimed to identify population-level and within-hospital differences in the quality of surgical care provision.

Study Design: The analysis included 657 NSQIP participating hospitals with more than 4 million patients (2014 to 2018).
