Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major public health concern and identifying prognostic molecular biomarkers can help stratify patients based on risk profiles, thus enabling personalized medicine. Epitranscriptomic modifications play a relevant role in controlling gene expression, N6-methyladenosine (m6A) regulators play crucial roles in cancer progression, but their clinical significance in CRC cancer has thus far not been elucidated. Thus, we aimed to examine by immunohistochemical techniques and RT-qPCR, protein levels and RNAs expression of m6A writers (METTL3, WTAP) and eraser (FTO) in a cohort of 10 patients affected by CRC.

Article Synopsis
  • Low-grade endotoxemia, caused by lipopolysaccharide (LPS), is detected in COVID-19 patients, potentially promoting thrombosis through a pro-inflammatory and pro-coagulant state.
  • The study measured various biomarkers in 175 COVID-19 patients and 50 healthy controls, finding significantly elevated levels of markers like sNOX2-dp and D-dimer in COVID-19 patients, especially those with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
  • Results suggest that factors like impaired gut barrier function, high NOX2 activation, and low albumin may lead to low-grade endotoxemia, increasing the risk of thrombotic events in COVID-19 patients.

Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) quantification of intramuscular fat accumulation is a responsive biomarker in neuromuscular diseases. Despite emergence of automated methods, manual muscle segmentation remains an essential foundation. We aimed to develop a training programme for new observers to demonstrate competence in lower limb muscle segmentation and establish reliability benchmarks for future human observers and machine learning segmentation packages.

Pathophysiology of portal vein thrombosis (PVT) in cirrhosis is still not entirely understood. Elevated levels of lipopolysaccharides (LPS) in portal circulation are significantly associated with hypercoagulation, increased platelet activation and endothelial dysfunction. The aim of the study was to investigate if LPS was associated with reduced portal venous flow, the third component of Virchow's triad, and the underlying mechanism.

Purpose: We assessed the current clinical imaging practice in the primary evaluation of neuromuscular disorders (NMD), with respect to standardized imaging, evaluation and reporting through a European and extra-European-wide survey.

Methods: An online questionnaire was emailed to all European Society of Neuroradiology (ESNR) members (n = 1662) who had expressed their interest in NMD. The questionnaire featured 40 individual items.
