Cutaneous diphtheria from 2018 to 2022: an observational, retrospective study of epidemiological, microbiological, clinical, and therapeutic characteristics in metropolitan France.

The incidence of diphtheria has been rising over the past decade, particularly in its cutaneous form. A clinical review of the case series was therefore required. We reviewed the epidemiological, clinical, microbiological and therapeutic data of cutaneous diphtheria cases, in adult patients living in metropolitan France with a skin sample positive for corynebacteria of the complex between 2018 and 2022.

Identification of a muropeptide precursor transporter from gut microbiota and its role in preventing intestinal inflammation.

The gut microbiota is a considerable source of biologically active compounds that can promote intestinal homeostasis and improve immune responses. Here, we used large expression libraries of cloned metagenomic DNA to identify compounds able to sustain an anti-inflammatory reaction on host cells. Starting with a screen for NF-κB activation, we have identified overlapping clones harbouring a heterodimeric ATP-binding cassette (ABC)-transporter from a Firmicutes.

Is an Anti-Inflammatory Commensal Bacterium with Decreased Abundance in Gut Microbiota of Patients with Metabolic Liver Disease.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) affects about 20-40% of the adult population in high-income countries and is now a leading indication for liver transplantation and can lead to hepatocellular carcinoma. The link between gut microbiota dysbiosis and NAFLD is now clearly established. Through analyses of the gut microbiota with shotgun metagenomics, we observe that compared to healthy controls, is depleted in patients with liver diseases such as NAFLD.

Synthesis and biological evaluation of 3,4-dihydro-1H-[1,4] oxazepino [6,5,4-hi] indol-1-ones and 4,6-dihydrooxepino [5,4,3-cd] indol-1(3H)-ones as Mycobacterium tuberculosis inhibitors.

This study focuses on the synthesis of 1,7- and 3,4-indole-fused lactones via a simple and efficient reaction sequence. The functionalization of these "oxazepino-indole" and "oxepino-indole" tricycles is carried out by palladium catalysed CC coupling, nucleophilic substitution or 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition.
