Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the impact of gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogues (GnRHa) on adult height in girls with idiopathic central precocious puberty (CPP), a condition that can hinder growth.
  • The research involved data from 465 girls diagnosed with idiopathic CPP across 55 centers in Spain from 1998 to 2012, assessing their growth and development while undergoing treatment.
  • Findings indicate that GnRHa treatment can help maintain genetic growth potential, with results showing a slight difference between achieved adult height and target height, suggesting some benefit in height preservation.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to assess the cost-effectiveness of weekly somatrogon versus daily growth hormone treatments in young children in Spain with growth hormone deficiency.
  • A Markov model was used to simulate health outcomes and costs from the perspective of the Spanish National Health System, focusing on untreated prepubertal children with GHD.
  • Results indicated that somatrogon is cost-effective, providing a good quality-adjusted life year (QALY) gain at a cost of €19,259 per QALY, and has a 61% probability of being the preferred treatment option at a willingness-to-pay threshold of €25,000 per QALY gained.

Congenital hyperinsulinism (CHI) is a heterogenous disease caused by insulin secretion regulatory defects, being ABCC8/KCNJ11 the most commonly affected genes. Therapeutic options include diazoxide, somatostatin analogues and surgery, which is curative in focal CHI. We report the case of two siblings (born two years apart) that presented themselves with hypoketotic hyperinsulinemic persistent hypoglycemias during neonatal period.

Monocarboxylate transporter 8 (MCT8) is an active and specific thyroid hormone transporter into neurons. MCT8 mutations cause an X-linked condition known as Allan-Herndon-Dudley syndrome and are characterized by impaired psychomotor development and typical abnormal thyroid function. We describe a 10-year-old boy with severe cognitive disability, axial hypotonia, spastic quadriplegia and sporadic dyskinetic episodes.

Background: The influence of gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogue (GnRHa) treatment on body mass index (BMI) evolution in girls with idiopathic central precocious puberty (CPP) is unclear. Hence, we aimed to evaluate the effect of GnRHa treatment on BMI-standard deviation score (SDS) from diagnosis of idiopathic CPP until adult height.

Methods: An observational study of girls diagnosed with CPP in Spain was carried out between January 2008 and December 2014.
