Blade tip-timing is an extensively used technique for measuring blade vibrations in turbine and compressor stages; it is one of the preferred techniques used for characterizing their dynamic behaviors using non-contact probes. Typically, arrival time signals are acquired and processed by a dedicated measurement system. Performing a sensitivity analysis on the data processing parameters is essential for the proper design of tip-timing test campaigns.

Non-destructive testing for structural health monitoring is becoming progressively important for gas turbine manufacturers. As several techniques for diagnostics and condition-based maintenance have been developed over the years, the tip-timing approach is one of the preferred approaches for characterizing the dynamic behavior of turbine blades using non-contact probes. This experimental work investigates the uncertainty of the time-of-arrival of a Blade Tip-Timing measurement system, a fundamental requirement for numerical and aeromechanical modeling validation.

The fused filament fabrication (FFF) process is widely used for producing prototypes and functional parts for diverse applications. While FFF is particularly attractive due to its cost-effectiveness, on the other hand, the fabricated parts have limitations in terms of large manufacturing time and reduced mechanical properties. The latter is strongly influenced by the fabrication process parameters, which affect the interlayer bonding and the adhesion between consecutive layers.

Here we present an investigation of a plutonium-beryllium neutron source available at the Horia Hulubei National Institute of Physics and Nuclear Engineering, Romania, to be used for detector characterization during the implementation of the Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics project. Using several different techniques and instruments, we have measured the isotopic composition for plutonium to be 75% Pu and 24% Pu, with a minor contribution from other isotopes. Furthermore, we have measured the source activity as of November 20th 2019 to be 2.
