Glycerol carbonate acrylate is a 5-membered cyclic carbonate synthesized from glycerol that is used as a chemical coupling agent and has proven highly suitable for use in the synthesis of multifunctional polyhydroxyurethanes (PHUs). The multifunctionality of the structure of PHUs is determined by the density of the carbon-amine groups generated by the Aza-Michael reaction and that of the urethane groups and adjacent primary and secondary hydroxyl groups generated by aminolysis. Glycerol carbonate acrylate is polymerized with polyfunctional mono-, di-, tri, and tetra-amines, by type-AB polyaddition, either in bulk or in solution, through stepwise or one-pot reaction strategies in the absence of added catalysts.

Background: Evidence-based practice (EBP) is considered a key entry to practice competency for nurses. However, many baccalaureate nursing programs continue to teach "traditional" nursing research courses that fail to address many of the critical knowledge, skills, and attitudes that foster EBP. Trans fatty acids (FA) arise in ruminant-derived foods as a consequence of rumen biohydrogenation and are of interest because of their biological effects and potential role in chronic human diseases. Our objective was to compare 2 trans FA, elaidic acid (EA; trans-9 18:1) and vaccenic acid (VA; trans-11 18:1), with oleic acid (OA; cis-9 18:1) relative to plasma lipid transport and mammary utilization for milk fat synthesis. Three ruminally cannulated, Holstein dairy cows, 259 +/- 6 DIM (mean +/- SEM), were randomly assigned in a 3 x 3 Latin square design.
