InAs quantum wells (QWs) are promising material systems due to their small effective mass, narrow bandgap, strong spin-orbit coupling, large g-factor, and transparent interface to superconductors. Therefore, they are promising candidates for the implementation of topological superconducting states. Despite this potential, the growth of InAs QWs with high crystal quality and well-controlled morphology remains challenging.

Dispersion-inclusive density functional theory (DFT) methods have unequivocally demonstrated improved performances with respect to standard DFT approximations for modeling large and extended molecular systems at the quantum mechanical level. Yet, in some cases, disagreements with highly accurate reference calculations, such as CCSD(T) and quantum Monte Carlo (MC) calculations, still remain. Furthermore, the application of general-purpose corrections, such as the popular Grimme's semi-classical models (DFT-D), to different Kohn-Sham exchange-correlation functionals sometimes leads to variable and inconsistent results, which recommend a careful prior evaluation.

The aim of this study is to verify the conditions under which a series of visual stimuli (line segments) will be subjectively perceived as visual lines or surfaces employing four experiments. Two experiments were conducted with the method of subjective evaluation of the line segments, and the other two with the Osgood semantic differential. We analysed five variables (thickness, type, orientation, and colour) potentially responsible for the lines' categorisation.
