It was assumed that only autogenous bone had appropriate osteoconductive and osteoindutive properties for bone regeneration, but this assumption has been challenged. Many studies have shown that synthetic biomaterials must be considered as the best choice for guided bone regeneration. The objective of this work is to compare the performances of nanohydroxyapatite/β-tricalcium phosphate (n-HA/β-TCP) composite and autogenous bone grafting in bone regeneration applications.

Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is known for its biostimulant properties, which can reduce inflammation and promote tissue regeneration. The present study is randomized, blinded, and placebo-controlled and aims to investigate the role of LLLT in the postoperative recovery of facial fractures. Patients with fractures of the zygomatic bone are selected and divided into two groups: low-level laser and red placebo light.

Introduction: Quality of life in terms of voice and musculoskeletal symptoms can be affected, especially at the end of pregnancy when major physical changes occur.

Objective: To analyze the results of vocal self-assessment and musculoskeletal symptoms of pregnant women in the second and third trimester.

Methods: Forty-nine pregnant women in the second and third trimester aged between 18 and 40years were examined using the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire and the Voice-Related Quality of Life Questionnaire.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers are studying photodynamic therapy (PDT) as a treatment for infections caused by complex bacterial structures called biofilms, but its effectiveness hasn't been confirmed in multi-species models.
  • This study tested the combination of methylene blue (MB) and red LED light on subgingival biofilms, resulting in a significant reduction in bacterial activity and overall count compared to controls.
  • Both the LED treatment alone and the combination with MB effectively lowered the metabolic activity of bacteria and the total number of bacteria in the biofilms, but the composition of the bacterial communities remained similar across the different treatment groups.

The everninomicins are bacterially produced antibiotic octasaccharides characterized by the presence of two interglycosidic spirocyclic ortho-δ-lactone (orthoester) moieties. The terminating G- and H-ring sugars, L-lyxose and C-4 branched sugar β-D-eurekanate, are proposed to be biosynthetically derived from nucleotide diphosphate pentose sugar pyranosides; however, the identity of these precursors and their biosynthetic origin remain to be determined. Herein we identify a new glucuronic acid decarboxylase from Micromonospora belonging to the superfamily of short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase enzymes, EvdS6.
