α-Synuclein misfolding and progressive accumulation drives a pathogenic process in Parkinson's disease. To understand cellular and network vulnerability to α-synuclein pathology, we developed a framework to quantify network-level vulnerability and identify new therapeutic targets at the cellular level. Full brain α-synuclein pathology was mapped in mice over 9 months.

Introduction: Skin aging, which results from intrinsic and extrinsic factors, is characterized by a rough, uneven and wrinkled appearance of the skin at the macroscopic level. At the microscopic level, aging shows lowered keratinocyte turnover, flattened dermal-epidermal junction and reduced collagen fiber density; however, use of skin biopsies to evaluate characteristic properties of these microscopic changes is too limiting for panelists and rarely used. The development of non-invasive techniques is an opportunity to be considered for such evaluations.

The synthesis of five quaternary hexagonal tungsten bronze (HTB) fluorides, MMF, ( = Cs and Rb; M = Co, Ni, and Zn; and = V) via a mild hydrothermal route is reported. The crystal structures and compositions were determined using a combination of single-crystal X-ray diffraction, Rietveld refinement of powder X-ray diffraction data, and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy analysis. This study highlights the sensitivity of the mild hydrothermal method on the reaction temperature, solvent system, and quantity of starting reagents that directly influence the selective synthesis of kinetically stabilized fluoride materials, including hydrated fluorides, β-pyrochlores, and HTB.

A key hallmark of Parkinson's disease (PD) is Lewy pathology. Composed of α-synuclein, Lewy pathology is found both in dopaminergic neurons that modulate motor function, and cortical regions that control cognitive function. Recent work has established the molecular identity of dopaminergic neurons susceptible to death, but little is known about cortical neurons susceptible to Lewy pathology or molecular changes induced by aggregates.
