Purpose: The term 'moral distress' was coined by Andrew Jameton to name the anguish that clinicians feel when they cannot pursue what they judge to be right because of institutional constraints. We argue that moral distress in critical care should also be addressed as a function of the constraints of ethics and propose an evaluative approach to the experience considering its implications for professional identity.

Method: We build on a selective review of the literature and analyze a paradigmatic example of moral distress, namely, clinicians who feel compelled to perform procedures on patients that seem futile.

Introduction: Medical students experience higher rates of distress and burnout compared with their age-similar peers overall. Coaching has been proposed as one means of combating distress and burnout within the medical profession. The purpose of this systematic review is to synthesise the current evidence on the effects of coaching interventions on medical student well-being, including engagement, resilience, quality of life, professional fulfilment and meaning in work and distress, including burnout, anxiety and depressive symptoms.

Purpose: There is limited research about the prevalence of patients initiating metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) who also know someone who had MBS, referred to as having a social history of MBS. Evidence about the specific relationship of these individuals to the patient, how having a social history of MBS is associated with patients' choice of surgical procedure, and how having a social history of MBS is associated with patients' postoperative outcomes can be used to inform future preoperative assessments. The objective was to (a) define the number of people patients knew who had MBS and relationship to patient, (b) assess congruence between those who had MBS with patients' procedure selection, and (c) explore associations between social history of MBS and postoperative outcomes.
